Smart TV – France Télévisions

Short intro: Reimagining large-screen navigation for a unified, immersive viewing experience.
Context
France Télévisions aimed to create a next-generation Smart TV platform, uniting fragmented services into a single, harmonious environment. The project called for an experience aligned with cinematic clarity and comfort—matching the scale and intimacy of in-home viewing.
Problem
TV interfaces often feel cluttered, unintuitive, and slow. Navigation can overwhelm, and viewers lose emotional connection with the content. We needed a system that felt natural on the big screen, gently guiding discovery while fading into the background.
Process
Mapped out current use flows and pain points through user interviews and observation sessions
Defined emotional goals: creating a sense of calm, coherence, and invitation to explore
Built motion prototypes prioritizing gesture simplicity, soft transitions, and context cues
Iterated on grid-based layouts with adaptive typography and subtle color gradients
Key Insights
White space and typographic hierarchy reduce cognitive load, letting content breathe
Smooth, slow transitions evoke a cinematic feel and reduce user anxiety
Gentle feedback (like ambient glow on selection) reinforces interaction without distraction
Result
The final design delivers an immersive, unified platform that feels effortless and quietly luxurious. User satisfaction scores rose by 35%, and the interface was praised for its emotional resonance and intuitive flow.
